Hi everyone!

I wanted to ask your advice on the best guinea pig nuggets to feed them? I am aware of the amount they should have but wondered which brands you guys use and where to buy them?

I also wanted to confirm whether salt licks and treat sticks are bad for them/aren't really recommended?

I understand that to guinea pigs, appropriate fruit and veg are seen as 'treats' to them so I just wanted to get other peoples opinions and experiences on these :)

I feed a mixture of nuggets (so they don't just get used to one type) which consists of Burgess Excel, Harringtons and Science Selective. They are all a little different to each other, I believe there is a nugget chart in the food section somewhere.

Salt licks aren't needed, I have also heard cases where they have caused harm so I wouldn't touch them. Treat sticks are great (as long as they're good ingredients), my piggies have a few a month.

I don't quite get what you mean, but fruit and veg is daily in my house (or they would never let me hear the end of it!) a wide variety is always good, as long as it's not iceberg lettuce, potato or onions :)

hi! thats great thank you! I mean guinea pigs see their daily fruit and veg as treats so there isn't necessarily as much need to give them other "treats" from the shelves in pet shops :)

Oh right, sorry I'm a bit daft :)

My girls still get treats (like munchy sticks) when I remember haha! But to be fair I think they'd prefer a bit of lettuce or parsley :))

Haha no its ok, mine don't seem to like the orange, yellow and green sticks so I'll have to do a little more searching :)

Yes my older 2 love them, and a load of other treats and sticks but my youngest 2 are odd. They don't seem to like a lot of normal treats. The Rosewood Naturals hearts have gone down well with all 4 of mine though :)

For pellets, my two girls have a mix of science selective, burgess excel and rosewood meadow menu.

I don't really give my two the sort of 'treats' you would buy from the pet shop, as I do think there is a lot of rubbish in them but maybe I'm just a bit mean! you can get some good ones, but I don't really buy them as my two never seem that keen haha.

As a treat my girls get a bit of fruit a few times a week along with their veg and they are more than happy with this. As you said, piggies absolutely adore their veggies :D

Also, my two get half a handful every so often of dried herbs/forage, as my bunnies have this as well. This includes dried plantain, dried nettle, dried raspberry and blackcurrent leaves, dried birch leaves, dried dandelion, readigrass etc. I bought all of these from the hay experts and just mixed them all together in a big tub :tu:
