I can not always get family to look after my piggies. So I was wondering if any one knew of guinea pig friendly holidays? We plan to get a caravan. Ideally I would take the piggies with me.

Anyone ever had a similar situation?

Sounds a great idea as I have only had my Piggies a short time but would love a holiday where they could come with me - what a great idea.

If i hear of anything, I will let you know. x

It would be a fun idea but I guess you have to think if your guinea pig will get travel sick :( It wouldn't be nice to see your guinea pig feeling unwell!

I know. It's just the last time we went away, my sister looked after the piggies. they all got stressed out. they were sqealing at her because they didn't recognise her, the boys fell out and there were some fights. Best thing my sister stayed at my house, so the pigs were in their own environment.

When we got back they were all pop corning and wouldn't leave us alone. I have got one pig now with me snuggled asleep on me.

Depends how many guinea pigs you have because most boarding facilities praticularly rescue centres charge a very reasonable fee for boarding usually only £2 per night or thereabouts, it might be worth looking into that option. We have a caravan but i would not consider taking my pigs because if can get very hot in the awning and the van when it is all closed up if you go out for the day, we usually take our dogs caravanning and i never leave them in the van or awning or car for that matter, they just come every where with us.

In my experience its better to have a friend look after them either in your own house or take your GP`s to your friends / relatives house.

Fresh water is always important because the new carer doesn`t know about changing it every day.

I have been looking into boarding them out in an appropriate Holiday Inn. I was suprised by how cheap it was.

The thought of leaving them in the caravan had crossed my mind because we wouldn't be able to go out. It would be the same as leaving a dog in a car.

My sister would look after them again. She is quite knowledgeable about animals studying for a degree in the field. It's just I don't like to put on her all the time. Plus I would miss my little pigs.

i would suggest that if you are determined to take your piggies on holiday with you then you consider hiring a cottage rather than a caravan. You also will have to consider the time of year for traveling in the car as they do not like to get too hot or cold also limit the time for how long it will take you to get there...

Going to board them out if I can't get a family member to look after them. it's not like we will be away regularly anyway at the minute.
