Hi all,

We have a 5 year old male pig whos starting making a sort of deep retching noise and i was wondering if anyone could give us slme advice?

He seems very docile and not his usual self.

Thanks
Dave

Welcome to the forum.
If there is any concern with a guinea pig’s health go to a vet as soon as possible.
It’s much better to catch a problem quickly.
Your boy looks very cute.
Hope all works out ok.
Keep us posted

Definitely a vet visit asap. Your piggy looks to be in pain to me.

Seems like his bladder is hard in a small area, could be the following:

Stones
Infection
Crystals

He’s had two needles, one for pain and one for inflammation and will be out on meds for the weekend tomorrow. Hoping it’s just an infection as the other two options sound very difficult to deal with.

Has the vet gave you any antibiotics to give at home? Or just the shot.

Have they gave you pain relief for home also?

Can I ask your rough geographical location please?

Had two shots and no meds (they were out). I will be going to my local vet tomorrow for meds as this was an emergency vet

We have no pain relief here :(

We’re based in England.

Hope you get the necessary meds and piggy makes a speedy recovery.
Don’t be afraid to take him straight back to the vet if you don’t think he’s improving,
There are details of piggy savvy vets on the vet locator but also many members can recommend vets if we know roughly where in England you are.
