My Guinea Pig was spayed this afternoon and we've had her back for about an hour. Our vet who is very highly qualified when it comes to guinea pigs said the op went very well and she's been eating so is fine to come home. She's been nibbling some hay but she literally hasn't moved an inch from where I put her in the cage. She is alive of course, she's been moving her head and as I said she's been eating too but I'm not sure if this is normal for her not to move an inch? Any advice is needed, thank you.

Yes, it's probably the after effects of the anesthetic. Pitch was always wobbly after it. Put in some fresh veg such as refreshing cucumber by her and keep checking on her. Has she had some painkiller? Either by injection or by mouth?

She has some cucumber in with her but she hasn't even touched it, it's just her pellets that she seems to be more interested in but still has probably only had a bite. She had some painkillers at the surgery not sure whether they were injection or by mouth, We've got some metacam to give her tomorrow orally.

If necessary, hand feed her some mushed up pellets this evening and tonight; best check on her during the night. I find that freshly operated piggies tend to love rough fibre; cardboard and newspaper are a particular favourite to nibble on on the day after the op, probably from all the operation meds that mess around with the digestion! Also syringe her some water whenever you hand feed.

Just lying is not at all unusual for a freshy operated piggy. Replace the bedding or soft cosy she is lying on if it gets soggy.

My Cariad started getting her appetite back for herself by about 3 am after her emergency spay earlier this year. She didn't really lose much in the way of weight and even made up for the lost body part within a couple of weeks.

She started nibbling on some of her hay an hour ago and is now eating the hay normally, whew. Ok, that's reassuring to know, she has moved into her bed now and is just sitting there and hasn't moved for a while so I think she's going to stay in there for the night. I'll update tomorrow, thank you for the help, both of you :)

Thank you both! Today she seems to improved significantly. She's eating normally, walking around, done many poos and there's no blood in her urine either. I held her and checked her wound which looked clean and all in place, she was desperate for a cuddle and burrowing into my hair poor thing. Very happy she's improved, thanks for all your help getting through the worst part of it. :)

Great news! I hope that she is fit to go back with her friends in a day or two. :)
