Hi. My guinea pig Maisie is acting very weird just later. She is one of 4, all four get on (as much as they will) and they all feed together and have done for ages. For the last few months Maisie has become really jumpy when she is close to the others, and keeps jerking back as though they are attacking her when actually they are taking no notice of her at all. Its as though she is jerking her head back and fighting with a guinea pig ghost ! Whilst the others eat, Maisie jumps back from every direction, turning one way, jumping back as though she has been confronted, turning another way, jumping back from that position, moving again, jumping back again, and all the time, none of the other piggies have moved. I am very worried about her. The rest of the time, she is fine and actually she is the dominant one. Any ideas please.

Is any of the water from the washed veggies getting on her face?

Hi. No. It is at night when I give them their pellets so it is dried food. She doesnt do this in the morning when they are all eating around the salad tray. I am wondering if it is a proximity thing. When they eat their salad in the morning, they pick off some veggies from the plate and back off to eat. Whereas the pellet eating is a constant sit around the plate and eat from the plate. I will try giving them separate dishes well apart from each other. Just wondered if anyone had seen the same behaviour.

Are her teeth ok? Maybe something is sore when she eats a hard pellet? I hope she is ok 🤞🏻

Thanks Weepweeps. She is absolutely fine. I think she may be getting sensory overload when they are all together in a small space. I have started putting the pellets onto 3 separate plates, spread across the cage and the change in closeness of proximity seems to have stopped it. They are silly creatures lol (but dont we just adore them). Thanks to you and Sport Billy for your messages. xx

Glad it was something easily solved. They definitely are wonderful characters. 😍
