I'm trying to get some new ideas on what veg and fruit to try my two boars on as they're both a little picky, especially Martin!

They like:
Lettuce (all kinds, I don't give iceberg of course though)
Carrots, including carrot tops
Grapes
Nelson likes apple but Martin doesn't
Honeydew Melon
Cucumber
Celery
Capiscum
The tops of strawberries
Sun-dried corn on the cob (the kind you get ready packaged from pet stores)

If there's none of the above left they will also eat:
Spinach
Rocket
Sometimes Nelson will eat some tomato, or some kiwi

Things I've tried them on that they either had a quick nibble of and then refused to eat/wouldn't even try/ate it the first few times then later decided they didn't like...:
Courgette (they both used to eat this at first then later decided against?!)
Banana (wouldn't even touch)
Strawberries (had one nibble each and wouldn't eat them)

So, what do your piggies like to eat with regards to fruit and veg? I want to get some inspiration to mix up their diet more and see if there's other things I can get them to eat. I've bought some green beans and pineapple today to try them on at some point too.

Have you tried sweet potato, raw beetroot, broccoli, mini sweetcorn, fennel, pear, sweetheart/pointed cabbage, fresh herbs like coriander/cilantro, dill, mint, parsley.

Courgette is a veg that most piggies don't like; banana and strawberry are equally very much down to the individual taste.
You can work your way down our veg list and see what goes and what not; piggies have very individual tastes: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...veg-and-fruit-list-with-vitamin-c-grading.42/

I really need to print that list to take with me when I go the supermarket because I always forget things! Can guinea pigs eat mushrooms?

Mushrooms, potatoes and any onion plants are all no nos. Listed in our food thread, too! ;)

Ginger, one of my pigs looks a lot like the one in your avatar :) thanks for the tips guys. ^^

Mine go bananas for dill, cilantro, mint and basil. They also eat green beans which appear to be their favourite. We tried getting them some new veg to try but they just turned up their nose at it. We thought they might get bored of the same stuff every day like we would but turns out that they are creatures of habit

My boy and my late pigs have/had Parsnips, broccoli, carrots, spinach, grapes, dandelion leaves.

I'm going to give Mikey a try on sweet peppers and melon among some other things once he's gotten used to having fruit and veg :)

Mine love coriander, parsley, basil, cucumber, lettuce, occasional apple, carrot, spinach, kale, peppers, pak choy, sweet corn, watermelon, celery.

Rambo loves mint although the others aren't that interested.
Rambo and Patch like orange peel though.

Mine aren't a fan of broccoli, cauliflower, dill.

Favourites would be parsley, basil and herbs in general, as well as corn on the cob. Lettuce, spinach, cucumber, peppers and green beans all vanish quickly. Not too keen on carrot, but will eat it. I don't think I've tried anything that was straight out rejected though.

I need to try them on more herbs it seems! I tried green beans, Martin had a bit of a nibble then wouldn't eat any more and Nelson wouldn't even try them. I tried cabbage recently which they both seem to enjoy which is good. Then I tried asparagus...Martin had a tiny nibble and then refused it, Nelson ate it fine... and soon after had a bad tummy which lead to diarrhea poor boy so I'm not giving him that again. Gonna try them on broccoli tonight. Oh and I tried them on sweet peppers and they loved them too but they're so much more expensive than normal ones! I need to start going the market on the weekends for veg because some stuff is soo expensive at my local supermarket and me and my partner are both students you see haha. They both like the sundried corn on the cobs you can buy from P@H too which last ages.

Can they eat banana peel or is that a stupid question? :') They wouldn't touch banana at all though. I also bought a bag of like dried forages from P@H which they both seem to like mostly especially Martin. :D

Edgar and Poe love green beans. All sweet peppers. Carotts. Kale.Mini corn.Parsnips.Romaine. Baby toms.celery.They turn their noses up at a leaf of basil! Edgar even threw it out the bowl once!

I heard guinea pigs are not meant to eat green beans.

Oh I found this.
Beans" consist of the outer pod and the inner seed/fruit (bit like peas)

In earlier days...green beans meant runner or dwarf beans that comprised not just the outer green pod but also the inner seeds (which in the case of runner beans are pink/black/purple speckled)

It's the seeds that are harmful....and therefore before "fine beans" were flown in from however many miles away...green beans used to mean mature runner/dwarf/french beans with their seeds enclosed.......hence were not a good idea

Fine beans (and today's green beans) are picked much earlier so no fruit/seeds......hence Ok for piggies to eat (if they like them)

You can also try sugar snaps....and mange tout

Thank you for letting us know about this. I have tried mine on runner beans but they are not mad keen. At least I now know to avoid giving them the seeds.
