My guinea pig is limping and not putting weight on his front right paw. He's hopping about with it hanging there. He's still eating and wheeking like mad and flying up and down the ramp and on top of hides like an idiot. He's booked into the vet this morning. I'm so worried. It'll be his first vet visit 😭😭

This is how he's holding it

Would I take Machu in the carrier to the vets too? I'm worried about separating them for a couple of hours but also he tends to want to play with Picchu and do chasing and things so not sure if he'd be more of a hindrance in the carrier.

:agr: Good luck at the vets, hopefully it’s just a sprain from being a cheeky chap jumping everywhere bless him.
It might be worth taking out things he’s jumping on etc so he can’t make it any worse!

I have an indoor cage with no ramps and stuff so may put him in that to recover. What do you think?

Wait and see what the vet says first.
Take his buddy along with him - they won't play in the carrier and it will offer him some comfort.

Hopefully it's just a sprain and some metacam for a few days will help, but only the vet will be able to say for sure.
Good luck - I hope he feel better soon.
He has the sweetest face!

Is he an outside pig? If so I’d maybe just take out the things he can jump on for now (and maybe put ramp up if you can?) until you know what’s going on with him at vets, rather than bringing him in and then taking him outside again with the cold weather etc.

He is outdoor yes. He lives in a hutch within a shed type thing. He's relaxing on his snugglesafe now in his hide stuffed with hay so hopefully that will help him.

They've just had a massive fight in the indoor cage the vet suggested we put them in. I have no idea what to do now. They've never ever had a fight before. I have separated Picchu into the carrier for now as don't want him hurting himself any more. Should I put Machu back outside into the hutch and just keep Picchu in the indoor one? He'll need to be here for a few days to help his leg. Just really what I didn't need today of all days is their first fight. I'm so stressed 😭

Please always take a 'paw holding' companion if possible; it helps massively with the stress factor.

It could be the new environment that has cause them to fight.
I am so sorry this is so stressful right now. I understand why you are upset.
Is the new indoor cage smaller than the space they are used to?
Was blood drawn when they fought?

Is there any way to keep them together but possibly separated by a grid?
So they can see and smell each other but not fight?

I would also be very reluctant to bring outside piggies inside at this point in the year. If they spend any time indoors then putting them back out in a hutch will be difficult (unless it is in a heated outbuilding - sorry if I missed that somewhere).

I hope you can find a solution that works out for the boys.

They were just going mad really loudly chattering and flying around. No bloody drawn because I separated immediately as I didn't want picchu hurting his leg anymore. You think I should just put both back outdoors despite the ramps etc? I tried putting them back together and they chattered again so I separated again.

They're both outside again now in their normal hutch. They're chattering and squeaking at each other but haven't started a fight (yet). Normal boar behaviour? I'm just worried about Picchus leg in the hutch because of the ramps and things he is still jumping all over.

So sorry they’ve had a falling out. Hopefully now they’re back in their hutch they’ll sort it out. He’s blooming gorgeous
But I’d personally take out things like that that he can jump on, just so he can rest it a little bless him. I know it makes you feel a bit mean taking these things away but better than him making it any worse if he’s a bit wobbly!

He's had 2 doses of Loxicom and he still seems to be limping as much as yesterday morning. Any idea when we should be seeing some improvement?

It may take a few days but it, of course, depends on the extent of his injury. If you aren’t seeing any improvement in the next few days, then I would speak to the vet again, it may be a bigger dose of loxicom is needed to get any pain and swelling under control

Ive just looked back on my thread to get dates as my Dexter hurt his leg a while back. It took about four days before he was limping less. He was in loxicom for seven days and was definitely back to normal by the end of the course as I didn’t need to go back for further checks/more meds

Thank you. He is on 0.2ml cat Loxicom which others have said is a very small daily dose. I just hate to think he is in pain. He is acting normal, wheeking and eating a lot but I know piggies are good at hiding it 😪😪

As you may have seen on my previous post Picchu hurt his leg and was taken to the vet Tuesday and has been on Loxicom ever since (0.2ml a day with 0.3ml on the first day). I'm not really seeing very much improvement but not sure if this is normal and how long these things take to heal etc as it's my first time with vets and meds etc. Should we have seen some improvement by now or not? Called vet and they said he's on the biggest dose he's allowed for his size and weight etc. Worried sick and so stressed about him😪😪

This is how he's holding it and he's hopping around on 3 legs
