All vets are different but I can take my four to the vet and get all their nails done for the £17 consultation fee. I usually do it myself but at ten weeks I would be surprised if they need cutting. Daisy was at least 6 months before I first cut hers. Just be calm with him, while you are holding him stroke his feet so he gets used to it and having his nails done isn't so new n scary. If the quick ends a long way from the tip of the nail maybe they need trimming, you can wrap him up with one foot sticking out at a time so he feels safe and can't wriggle.

I've just done ours again and they're 8 months old. I first tried the back nails at 6 months.
I think I decided they were too long when their toes were twisting slightly on hard surfaces.
As they get older they usually become much more tame and trusting. At 10 weeks I could barely catch them. They still run away most of the time even now but are happy to be handled if you pick them up from their bed bit.
I managed to cut their back nails easily and they were the worst. Next time around I did both sets and with no struggles.

his nails are curling under a bit and i am a bit worried,

he is usally a star, at 8 weeks he was calm as can be and he is the same now, he never is scatty and he gives kisses and loves to cuddle in my neck and have a chat he is wonderfull and i am so glad he was my first guinea pig:):) the only worry i have with him is his nails:...

there's another thread where I mentioned putting the piggie outside in a run on concrete so it wears the nails down a bit.

first time I tried to trim I just cut about 1mm from the end because I didn't want to hurt or scare them and wasn't too sure on what I was doing. I suppose I tried to catch them by surprise too and didn't hold them tight at all.

sadly we can't do that because the block paving has little gaps in it so he could quite easily put his nose under and sqeeze out:(
