I think I am going crazy ?/ Connie has always been more vocal than Eliza and makes many more sounds and a lot more noise. However, sometimes when I hear her make a sound, I am worried incase she is in pain or something. I think it doesn't help because of all her recent bladder problems. Am I just being paranoid?

Some of mine don't seem to shut up while others never make any noise at all!

Is she squeaking at the same time as going to the loo or scratching? If so I'd say it's more likely to be an 'unhappy' squeak. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

or a lot of mine are allways making noises but then others ony make noises if there in pain

mine have quietened down a little with age, but go through stages of being so loud! i think you'd know if it was a bad noise, also what context are they doing the noise? is it when being stroked, eating, sleeping, running, peeing or pooping? is it high pitched, low pitched or like a sound you've never heard her make before? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

She squeaks when being touched around her back end but she has never liked this. Eliza doesn't like being touched there either but she doesn't make any sounds. Ut is kind of a low pitched squeak followed by a high one. My guinea pig really know's how to stress her mummy out :(

What you describe is, I think, a cry of distress.

It sounds to me as if Connie has been hurt at some point (perhaps from the operation?) and is distressed by a still vivid memory when you touch her in what is obviously a sensitive spot.

I've heard similar sounds from Mischief when it came to old, but not yet forgotten hurts. It should subside with time and tlc.

She hasn't had an operation but she did have an X Ray back in December to check for bladder stones. She has also been prodded and poked around a lot over the last 4 months mainly around her bladder area. Do you think this is what it could be?

From my experience it is. Minx did this sometimes for a time after a lot of prodding by the vets, if I happened to touch her somewhere she'd been hurt. Kind of starts low and escalates into a full blown high scream, yes?

The quieter guinea pigs seem do it only after something REALLY hurt them, while the more vocal ones can get carried away a bit more easily.

I'm glad that Connie didn't have an operation; but I'm new to these boards, so I didn't catch the whole story.

When Minx was having a stone, she started with making low, a bit like mewling noises when she was passing crystals, or urine over a scratched bit of the uretra, or pushing a bigger stone into the uretra. Usually the urine was a bit reddish from blood. And she would make a round back from the pain and not curl up on her side when sleeping - that's when I knew we were due yet another trip to the vet again!

I hope that this description can help you to look out for more specific signs without getting worried about everything unusual that's going on!
