I recently brought home 2 wonderful baby girls. Both of them are eating alright running around, jumping and everything.
My problem is one of the female named dolma had a slight crust on her nose which i noticed after her first night home. She cleaned it herself but i saw it for 3 days. She had no other problem her eyes are all bright and clean she eats plays with her sister and likes being petted. I check her twice a day ( full body checkup- nails, eyes etc) i asked the vet he says it could be an allergy probably to her bedding which is wood shavings. I removed it and she was fine. But today i saw a little bit of water near 1 nostril. I checked online everywhere it says uri but she is nt showing any other symptom. I'm so confused as to what is causing this. She has nothing on her nose now its clean she seems normal what should i do. Could it be due to hay.
I'm sorry this is sooo long but i need advice please. Thanks

Hi welcome to the forum. It's difficult to say but it could be the start of a URI but could also be an allergy. Has the vet actually seen her or was it advice over the phone?

Thanks fr the reply
I asked him over the phone and he was pretty sure that a visit is not required. Now i dont trust him at all. How long does it take for the symptoms to come. And how can i be sure of what it is. My husband even said that maybe she was having water before i picked her and some of it got on her nose. But the crust was there last week it was pretty less like less than half a grain of rice.
Rest she seems fine. Till the time i find a better vet what should i do. :soz:

If she is fine in herself don't panic but I do think it is best to get her checked by a vet you trust, as they should be able to tell if it is allergies or a URI. In the meantime, keep an eye on how much she is eating, weigh her daily and monitor her breathing. If it seems laboured at all she needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

Thanks again i guess il keep updating about her here. U guys seem to know a lot more about guinea babies than me.

My baby seems fine now no more crust on nose and se is eating like always. How long before i can be sure it is nothing.
And bonky keeps following dolma around and tries to put her head under her butt. Whats that all about is it normal?

Hello Just thought I'd share one of my experiences as my gi gi always seems to has some sort of moisture in his nose one day his eye started to run as if he was crying. It might have been a hay poke or something. I took him to the vet he gave him eye drops and baytril for 10 days, then a check up nothing on the lungs (nothing on his lungs on the first check up either) his eyes were fine so he suggested it was something in my room or bedding as I also had a problem with bedding when I first got him and my scruffy. Then he was checked by new vet as part of an insurance plan she didn't hear anything and gave him an all over and said he was fine and healthy. He still has the moisture but I think it's normal, he sneezes occasionally I think what might have set this off is the fact I had a fan heater. As the vet suggested I tested this and exchanged it with a normal heater and now he is fine touch wood so I wouldn't worry but if you are just have her checked over :) Sorry the long essay!

Thanku for sharing your experience it helps a lot. Hope this is one of such allergies only.

Yes, the behaviour is normal, especially if Dolma is about to come into season in the next days.

Thanks understood a couple of things about their behaviour.
