Hi last Wednesday Jack attended the vets to have cyst removed from under his chin. I got him home on Wednesday evening and at first he was eating great. The vet said to feed him anything he wanted so must have been expecting him to not be so keen on his food, unfortunately over the weekend he has stopped eating voluntarily and I am having to syringe feed him. Does anyone have any suggestion as what I can tempt him with. I intend to take him back to the vets tomorrow.

Try him with all of the things he loves, and as many different types of hay that you can get hold of.

Well done for spotting that he had stopped eating and starting to syringe feed. It's a good idea to weigh him regularly, at the same time daily so you can check to see if you're syringe feeding him enough.

If you can it'll be a good idea to try to get him to the vet today as it's really hard to syringe feed them enough to maintain weight.

Sorry to see your piggy isn't recovering from his surgery well :( Tiny slices of apple often seem to go down well, as it's soft and has a strong scent and taste, or fresh herbs. It might be worth trying to blitz some fruit and veg into a puree or get some fruit flavour baby food as an alternative to syringe feed. Soaking food pellets in a bit of warm water and mushing them up can sometimes tempt them to eat a bit.

I hope he remains stable until you can get him to the vet again.

Was he given any painkillers to give at home after the operation?

Thanks very much for all your suggestions, so far I have tried him with pur`eed fruit and veg as well as mushy pellets, yesterday I thought that he was improving as I managed to find some dandelion leaves and he ate them but today he is refusing them.

The only thing the vet gave me after his op was baytril. I have some metacam which I have been giving him since Sunday. My thinking is the reason that he was eating so well to begin with was because he was so full of paionkillers after the op.

Sending lots of healing vibes, I hope he starts eating on his own soon!

Jack has been to the vets and has a chest infection he has been given medication for infection and something for the pain, he has also been given fluids as he is dehydrated, he is very week but I am not giving up hope.

Unfortunately I had to let Jack go this evening, by now he will be in peace with his friend Petal who passed away in her sleep a couple of months ago.

I am so sorry for your loss Seamus. You took a brave decision to let him go before he suffered to much.
Sleep tight jack xx
