I asked this on a parenting forum I go on (there is a pets forum in it) and everyone who replied to me said to just save up a bit of money per month.
So far, we've had 3 trips to the vets, first 2 visits were drops which cost £6 each. 3rd trip was drops and an antibiotic injection and it still cost £6! ;D
The only insurance company worth insuring with, that I've heard of, have stopped doing it. As the others have said you're better off putting some away monthly. Also keep a seperate credit card for vet bills (if you're like me ? ) so its not declined :
That's a shame, I was thinking of if something went really wrong and the vet bill exceeded what we had managed to put away - we're not so good at saving, we have a mortgage and 2 kids, and I'm not earning a wage (notice I didn't say 'not working'! O0 ) so there always seems to be something needing to be paid for. Having an emergency 'guinea pig' credit card is a good idea! I wouldn't want to have to skimp on treatments for my boys if anything went wrong.
i was also thinking of doing this as we have 3 cats, 2 GP and a rabbit now. It can be costly for us. I looked it up and www.healthypets.co.uk do insurance.
I don't think they cover guineas.. Petplan do cover rabbits now and I could technically cover the guineas under their 'exotic' heading which is for reptiles, and I suppose chipmunks and the like, but it's really dear.
I'll have to pester one of these companies, maybe, and see what they think about insuring guinea pigs!
Most only insure rabbits in the small pets category. We have rabbit and dog insurance with pet plan and when we enquired they told us it was a service they didn't offer. It's also worth asking at your vets as some do their own little payment schemes to cover you for certain treatment at a cost per month.
