Just out of interest, been looking at Guinea Pig Rehome site and it says no pigs for rehoming in Norfolk or Suffolk...

Also a pig that I rehomed from Wood Green some time ago is still on the front page (Larry, now Harry!)

Are all the pigs listed in the rescue section here also on the site? How is it linked to the forum (sorry for all the questions!) - seems a shame if it's not being used as much when there are so many pigs in rescue. I don't have any ready for rehoming yet and was just wondering whether to put them on there when the time comes.

Thanks

Sophie

Yeah who runs it, looks a bit stale. but then having put pigs up in the past it is down to members to remove pigs.

I'm checking every 5 minutes to see if Herman is still available on rabbit rehome! ::)

The rescues in the forum rescue centre arent on the website, the only way its linked is the website has the forum link on and the forum has the website link on. I cant remember the name of the lady who runs it :-\

LOL, it annoys me that Larry is still on the site because he's MINE! I know it's up to people to remove pigs, but he's not actually there if you search - just on the front page! Perhaps they could be removed after a month or something if not renewed?

Before I had my piggies (whom I got from my vet nurse) I'd contacted Wood Green, and they wouldn't let me have any piggies at all because I wasn't supplying a 6 foot outside run for them. At the time I planned to let them live in the house with us (which they do) and put them outside on the grass when the weather is good (which we do). I was very disappointed, particularly as we had long go made Wood Green beneficiaries in our Wills (as we don't have children). Ah well ...

That's a shame Sue. The RSPCA are the same with me and the rabbit I want. I don't have a big enough run and my Rabbit runs around the garden but I have to rabbit proof it further which we are doing. :)

Yes well same here - they said I had to have them out on grass every day, I said in no uncertain terms that my pigs do not go out in bad weather or if it's wet... they do have unusual policies, I had to take photos of myself standing next to the cage and in the run so they could see what size it was (I was too far away to homecheck!) ::)

I know they have to be careful who they home to but it's worrying that people who can't get one from there can just go and get a pig from a petshop for a few quid.. a bit off topic, but still!

Guinea Pig Rehome site should be really useful I guess it just needs everyone's input to keep it up to date that's where I found Harry but I notice Wood Green haven't put any of the new ones up on there and they've got loads in at the mo - see Rescue section!

Whew, I'm glad you think the same as me - I certainly wasn't going to have them outside in bad weather.
And yes, I quite agree they have to be sure who they are rehoming to, but I offered to put them in touch with my vet who would have given me a reference (I've had cats and hedgehogs from them before now) but that wasn't satisfactory. So I ended up having my piggies from the vet nurse after all.
I hope you get your rabbit.
And yes, I'm sorry I went off topic too ... but this is also off topic, I think this Forum is just wonderful.

Oh I'm sure we've gone off topic on every thread so i woudlnt worry about it ;D

I used to put up lots of pigs on there and kep it up to date but never got an enquiry from there so gave up to be honest, as you said some of the guineas details are not updated and it puts people off using it i think.

I must admit I have had a couple of enquires when I've had pigs on there. Maybe it goes by areas. There are no rescues in Merseyside so would explain why people would contact from there. :)

Ellie and a few others from here run Guinea Pig Rehome.

Pigs will stay on there until the original person who listed them updates the information or removes them. This is why old pigs still show up. Reminders are sent I think but it is dependent totally on users to keep the details on there current.

Same with the rescue listings - if a rescue han't requested to be added then obviously they won't show up!

I agree Starshine, it would be impossible for Ellie and Co. to a)know when a piggy has been rehomed and b)far too time consuming to keep chasing everyone. Obviously rescues are busy places but I agree it would help if they removed rehomed piggies as soon as possible. Certainly in the Kent area the list seems to be pretty up to date and its individuals who tend not to change the piggies status.

Yep thats what I do, delete when rehomed otherwise people will be disapointed. :(
