No there isn't anything safe you could use, sprays could actually do more harm than good. I suggest you pop in a small cat litter tray lined with some newspaper & a little hay & he will probably pee & poo mostly in that which you can then just take out & tip away in your bin

My living room ALWAYS looks like a bomb has hit it!
To deter the guinea pigs (on floor time) from exploring under sofas and behind them (behind the tv), near electrical sockets, the kitchen (there's no door to shut between the 2 rooms) - I've built knee-high barricades with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I can get hold of!
E.g. Old cardboard boxes, plastic boxes, big bottle etc, shoes etc.
Maybe you could build a little fort around your rocking chair? Or just put down some newspaper underneath? My lot love to hide under the footstool, so I pop down newspaper and an old fleece and they love it!
