so the other day, i discovered how to make piggie smoothies!
(if you take out the hay, Owners can have some too!)
recipe:
makes: one serving
ingredients:
a small handful of spinach and kale
one small cut up strawberry
a slice of banana
one to three cucumber slices
one ice cube (two if they are small cubes or crushed)
optional-
the juice of the half of an orange (adds vitamin c, plus a bit more citrus flavor as i have found that my piggie, midnight LOVES citrus.)
small handful of timothy hay (my piggie isn't to thrilled about hay, surprisingly, so i sneak it in there just so hes getting some.)
any veggies or small amounts of fruits your piggie likes! (pinnapple is a good sub. for strawberry, however do not add any more than one cube due to high sugar content)
to make your piggie a smoothie, simply put all the ingredients above into a blender and blend until a solid color with little to no chunks (small hay strands are fine)
i personally prefer to put the smoothie into my piggies bowl after he has his pellets for the day.
DISCLAIMER: this is NOT a substitute for feeding you pig vegtables! a smoothie should only be given up to once every few weeks. this is just a treat and does not sub. all the nutrients you give to your pig when you give them a nice variety of freshly cut vegtables.
READ: until the E. Coli outbreak in lettuce is COMPLETELY gone, do not use romaine lettuce in this recipe or anything you plan on making for your pigs or even for yourself. remember: E. Coli is basically a form of samonella.
