guinea pig teeth

I have recently noticed that one of my guinea pigs has a gap between his two top teeth. I'm not sure if this gap has been forced by the food that appears to be stuck in between his top teeth.

It does not appear to be bothering his eating habits, although he might not be eating as much carrott as he used to (although this may be just me being paraniod). He is eating all other food & hay fine.

I have been closely monitoring the situation for a fortnight.

I dont really want to take him to the vet if nothing is wrong and it is just a case of cleaning/removing the debris cuaght between his teeth.

I have tried brushing his teeth (yes really!) with a baby tooth brush but it doesn't seem to be helping (although I may be doing this a tad too gently - and he is a twitcher so he keeps moving whilst I am doing it)

Any suggestions as to what is wrong/how I can fix this problem?

A slight movement of the front teeth is normal. There maybe a gap of half a millimetre.
Most, if not all, pigs will get food stuck from time to time. The best advice is...leave well alone and keep him away from a vet!

Thanks...

I didn't think it was a huge problem, but just wanted to check beacuse my other pig dosen't have this gap between his two top teeth and this one didn't used to either.

I would be reluctant to take him to the vet anyway, everytime I have taken my other pig (who had broken teeth once which were growing back at an angle) he seems to want to cut his teeth down which then causes him problems with his eating. Although fingers crossed I have had no problems since october in this regard.

Back to this problem, I thought, if its not causing the pig problems eating then it should be okay. He hates me looking in his mouth anyway and has a habit of chomping down on your fingers......maybe I should take him to the vet, my pig can teach the vet a lesson! lol

So many vets cut the front teeth just because "they look too long", and then wonder why the pig cannot eat at all.
