Hey guys, I'm not sure what to do here. two weeks ago I noticed my guinea pig was holding her leg up. I was very worried that she hurt her leg so I took her to the vet. The vet checked her over and said that everything was fine and gave us some pain meds. The next day she was running around like everything was fine. Fast forward 2 weeks and I was giving her a nail trimming and I noticed on the foot she was previously holding up her nail was bent sideways, like 90 degrees away from her foot. I looks like it is bent all the way up to her toe. However her toe doesn't look bent. . She doesn't seem in pain, but I know they hide their pain. She is acting completely normal. I don't see any dried blood or anything around the nail. I am not 100% sure that her holding her foot up two weeks ago is even related to this nail issue I noticed, but it is the same foot. I just don't know if this is an emergency thing or just keep an eye on it deal. I've researched a lot but I haven't really found a similar situation that anyone has had. I just want to make sure she isn't in pain and get other's opinions.

Can you post a picture? As piggies grow older their nails can grow curly and poke out to the side. A pic would help clarify if that's the case.

Some guinea pig nails grow curly like a corkscrew... especially as pigs got older or after an injury or trauma to the nail bed. It's not harmful, it just makes it harder to cut the nails sometimes.

Here is what it looks like... We are taking her in to the vet soon I just want opinions on what I need to ask the vet etc. Poor girl. :(

It appears to be swollen now which it wasn't when we first noticed. Definitely getting her in to the vet but what is the procedure for this? Is it a fractured toe or a busted nail?

The photo is not a normal looking nail. If the toe is swollen it may be broken or indicate infection. Your piggy needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Please get her seen today for pain relief and treatment
