I was going to get my boys an exercise ball, but then I found out that the balls hurt their backs. So my friend said that she saw this REALLY big ball, that was Mabey 16-18 inches. Would that still hurt their backs?

As far as I know, guinea pigs are never meant to go in any kind of exercise ball, it causes too much stress on there spines. :)

Lol these are all great ideas:) lots I use already and the favourite toys for mine are paper bags either stuffed with hay or empty and cardboard boxes, tubes, . They also know when I say 'it's playtime', as that means floortime:) Barney loves to roll a plastic ball with a bell in around with his nose, very cute! I also make veggie parcels, which is veg or fruit pieces wrapped in paper, or newspaper, then I put them around their run, some hidden and they wheek and go mad for them.. a big hit:)

I hang stuff across the cages for my piggies to forage in.
Loo rolls with hay in hung so they have to pull at it to get it out, I make Pom-poms out of string of them to run inbetween,
I use plastic pots hung upside down like little bells for them to push.
I also put paper bags in, make tunnels out of rolled card, soft toys etc.

Oh I also buy baby teething rings- the ones that link together and hang them up.
You can also make great hanging toys using string and bits of junk (cardboard, yoghurt pots, etc) threaded on in different ways.
You can hang carrot discs too by popping a little hole in the middle of them and threading them...

    Few more:
Bottle tops threaded on string- or in bunches and hung up.
Hang veggies- leaves and thin veg like beans from a washing line with wooden pegs.
Fleece rope pulls- cut thin strips of fleece, plait it together to make rope pulls. Tie a plastic ball to one end and hang.
    Tie into a circle shape.
Use Dixie cups - cardboard party cups- to make a hide and seek game. Turn them upside down and hide treats under them.
You can also use shower rings to hang things in cages- they are cheap to buy and look nice.

The guilt has settled in that I have demolished my Lindt easter box of oh-so-addictive chocolates. The upside is the carrot box made a great hay holder for the boys! The box is held down by a heavy ceramic display and I used a knife to slit holes to insert hay :)

My boys also love toliet rolls, you can see Sven-Erik sitting on one that has almost been completely chewed! I've purchased actual chube tunnels but that has been barely chewed compared with the cost-less toliet rolls and newspaper balls!

@Rach1 - so many new inspirational ideas I can't wait to get started on! I love getting creative with DIY!

So I stuffed a toilet roll with hay for them to play with and eat. What did they do? Dragged it into their hut and ate it in there. So much for it being a toy XD

My piggy LOVES her toys! Here are some things I have given her:

    • Cat toys -- her favourite are balls that jingle.
    • Bird cage toys -- In the pet shop, these are hanging things usually with colored blocks and variations might include rope arms, bells, or mirrors. I hang these from the side of Kindle's cage or run a stick through some of the crossbars and hang them overhead. She likes to nibble and tug at them and last night I witnessed for the first time as she stood up and batted at a jingly ball on a string, just like a little cat!
    • Pieces of loofah cut into weird shapes
    • Stuffed animals
    • Champagne and wine corks
Hope that gives folks some ideas! :)

I love that last picture so much :D My little Oscar always takes joy in destroying balls of paper, even things like paper bags are good fun for him, nothing makes him happier then compressing the daylights out of a paper bag, hard to tell if he just likes sitting on them for destructive purposes or if he just hates a foreign object blocking his view of the kitchen, something about guinea pigs and paper anything :)

Personally I believe they are not suitable for guineas & are also quite dangerous.
