Senior Guinea Pig
Glad you were able to see Simon, hopefully it is just an infection and the Septrin will clear it up.
Great news! I hope Sam continues to improve![]()

So glad that you were able to get Simon to see Sam. Now he has a much better chance of a full recovery. @Gem789 how is the little fella doing today?
Storm one of our boars was awake for xrays, he was taken into the vets again due to pain, xrayed and found he has kidney and bladder stones, he tends to only squeak when he poo's, he's on painkillers but we've been told (my son and I) that he can't be helped unless the kidney stone passes. He's eating and drinking well though.
I'm really sorry to hear about your guineaIt's a shame you can't find someone to do the xray while he's awake, there are ways.
I'm no expert on these things, but I believe that the anti-biotics can take a few hours to kick in. Keep giving the Septrin as Simon directed. Cystitis is usually fairly easy to clear up. Thank you @Gem789 we have another guinea, Jericho (lol we have 10 in total including a dog and a mouse) he had cystitis last Summer, tried three or four times to get rid of it with antibiotics, it turned out that it may have been interstitial cystitis which you don't treat with antibiotics (that's what I was told at least), he was then moved on to cystophan and kept on painkillers, he seems much better now, just crossing my fingers it doesn't come back and yeah antibiotics can take a couple of days or more to kick in properly.
I hope your guinea starts to improve. It can take time, my adult son has been nursing Cesaro, hand feeding/watering him every three hours, antibiotics etc. (nasty intestinal parasite) he's slowly getting better and putting weight back onI'm just glad the vet knew what she was doing.
@Gem789 How is Sam doing today? Any better?
If you are that worried, then do get him down to Simon again. He will not think any less of you for bringing him back so soon. It only shows how attentive you are, and how much you care. Thank you, I'll let you know how I get on.Good luck with your appointment.
Good luck with your appointment.
He's at the vets as we speak for an X-ray and a possible operation if they find anything so I'm feeling very worried at the moment.I saw Kim today who was lovely, she said his bladder wall seems very inflamed. How is the little guy getting on? Is he any better?
Thank you, yes I'm keeping my fingers crossed too xOh .... it's a horrible time when you are waiting for news like this. Fingers firmly crossed for him.![]()
I haven't, do Guinea pigs like that then?have you tried babyfood?(just make sure its purple vegetables, no meat no dairy) this may help with the weight issue
Ok thanks I think I will try that, I used to blend fruit for my old pig bill when he stopped eating and he seemed to like ityes, which is why I used it when my girl got cancer and was losing weight, I also use it as a rare treat for the others. just get a syringe with no needle and feed it. or you could blend apples and bananas and feed the same way which mine also love x
Sams a boy lol and ok I am gonna try pets at home later on and see if they have it in store.I'm very glad there's no bladder stones but feel very sorry for him with his painful legs and feet.I'm just hoping the metacam will help.Ah that sounds good regarding the bladder
Vetbed is lovely and soft on their feet, and it's cushiony so will absorb some of the impact as they walk around, so I think it's well worth the investment. There's Vetbed and Profleece, and both brands are good.Just cut your pieces a little larger than the cage floor as sometimes it can shrink a little the first few times you wash it.
I am sorry, I can't help you on the arthritis itself, apart from saying that vetbed would help her to go easy on her feet and joints. x
