Hi

What is the average weight of a healthy guinea-pig?

I want to know if my guinea-pig is healthy or not, as I can't find a good website about guniea-pigs weight.

Thanks

Lessie

Hi

Piggies weights vary so much its very hard to stipulate a healthy weight.
It depends on the individual guinea pig, sex and age can make the weights vary.

Most leaflets state for a sow approx 700-900g and for a boar 800-1000g. One of my boars is 1300g and one of my sows is 670g so both are under/over these figures, but very healthy?!

How old is your piggie and how much do they weigh?

Normal weight for an individual can be anything from 2lb - 4lb (800-1800g). Some even a little more or less than that. I advise the guidelines of, if the pigs tummy is dragging or touching the ground as they stand tall and walk, then they are probably overweight.
