I'm just curious to what the weight of a fully grown gpig should be for both male and female, and when are pigs fully grown?

Thanks all! :)

Weight varies for all pigs..

If that is correct my male is underweight and my 2 females are over! :)).

On that link it goes on to say:

"These weights do not seem typical nor representative of pet guinea pigs. Male and female weights are often similar and overall weight is generally higher."

Guinealynx does mention these vet textbook weights only to go on and state that these weights are not representative, as guinea pigs are generally heavier and that there is not much of a difference in genders. They do not give any other weights. http://www.guinealynx.info/weigh.html

Anything between 800-1800g can be considered a normal adult weight. Most guinea pigs will end up between 900-1500g; while a few guinea pigs will never grow as big and heavy and still lead a happy, full life.

I thought I would take advantage of this thread to ask your opinion on my two girls weights, over the last few days their weights have been abit abnormal.
(Gloria is the first number, Moe is the second)

As you can see they have been steadily gaining. You have to give or take a couple of grams though because they never wanna sit still on the scales.
Obviously its the last 2 sets of weights that concerns me.
Neither of them have lost their appetite, I have seem them both munching on pellets, hay and they are currently destroying a carrot and its leafy top.

The only thing we can think of as to why they would have lost, is that over the last week we have substituted broccoli with spinach in their daily veggies, and I guess spinach is mostly water so maybe it wouldnt be as nutritious/filling as broccoli?

We are gonna keep weighing them every day to keep our eyes on them. Am I being overly concerned? They are both female, and about 7 months old.

Thanks for any advice you can give me :)

Their weights look absolutely fine, loveisdivine - fluctuations of up to 20g per week (i.e. more or less than previous week) is normal, it is equal to under one ounce. Even though Gloria has lost weight three weeks in a row, it is only 6g then 4g, so really nothing to be concerned about. Likewise with Moe, losing a few grams then gaining some is also normal.

If a weight loss of say 20g+ is recorded every week for a few weeks, then it is something to focus more on. :)

With regards to normal weight, it's as Wiebke said, 800-1800g can be perfectly normal and healthy. Of my fourteen pigs, I have three who weigh around 950g or so, and at least four who are over 1200g. Dexter is the heaviest at around 1430g.

I actually had somebody as me this recently and i said her piggie was definitely a normal weight, he's around the high 900's :)
Having met Marita with her oh so chunky piggies droolx) i hadn't realised just how much there weight could vary, but i think what Wiebke and Laura have said is very much the norm :)
My girls their mum is 800g where as their dad is 1200g or so..... my girls are Velvet 1055g and Onyx 1020g i think they look healthy :)
Loveisdivine i'd not worry either, try not to weigh daily unless you are hand feeding or it's a medical reason..... weekly they still fluctuate, they may have done a wee :red or not eaten as much as usual before you weigh
I weigh weekly after i've done their BIG clean, often they vary about 5-10 grams.

Oh right thanks :) I wont worry myself then, I guess I was just surprised cos they hadnt lost anything before. I will be more aware of fluctuations now.
