I understand you are stressed, but a bit more information would be helpful.

How do you know it's sprained? Does the piggie limp? Is it swollen?

Hi!

Can the piggy still stand on on its leg? Which part of the leg is involved? Or have you just seen it limping?

My Nia had a sprain of her shoulder join (right up in the body) and was limping badly for two weeks before Christmas; however, it improved slowly. She got some metacam (pain killer/anti-inflammatory) and a low dose of baytril (antibiotic) from the vet who saw her in order to reduce the swelling.

Did he fall from something? Do you know what happened? If he is in obvious pain I would take him to a vet. The leg could even be broken and he needs some pain meds.

He did jump from my arms when I was holding him. Maybe he was uncomfortable with the way I was holding him? But I was holding him correctly.:(

Sometimes they are just that scared. I have one pig who would fly out of my arms if she could. If he fell from your arms to the floor it's possible he has broken something. I would take him to a vet ASAP. He may also have broken his teeth, have you checked?

Elvis broke his leg when he about 6 months old, he jumped when about 6 inches from the floor, the vet said just leave it to heal , his leg was never the same after though, although it never bothered him.

He did not break his teeth. I just think he may have sprained his leg. When he fell he did not squeal. So he just squeals when you touch his leg. And I felt for broken bones. And I didn't feel any.

Coby has only been at my house for a week. But is not very energetic. He is very cuddly though.

Have you got some painkiller, 0.5 ml of calpol will do the job .I don't think the vet will do anything worthwhile except give you a bill.

It would be a good idea to remove anything from the cage that the piggie could try to jump on or off of. That way the injury *** have a better chance to heal. In the meantime, it may be favourable not to handle the piggie unneccessarily.

How old is he? Is it his back leg or front leg?

I agree that pain relief is important, but dosage may depend on the age of piggie.

Treatment for sprains (and breaks) tends to be enforced rest (limited cage size e.g. 1x2ft) and pain relief, how long for varies between pigs.

I too have to recommend a vet check - good luck.

Once I thought my guinea pig had a sprained leg. It was all swollen and purple, and she wouldn't walk on it. But, I was told she was deficient in vitamin C. I gave her vitamin C tablets everyday for a while to get rid of the deficiency. Her leg was completely better in just a few days. :)

Maybe this will help? :)
