Hey I have recently got a guinea pig from a rescue who is 5 weeks old, and she was born with no ears! I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any guinea pig who was the same!? The lady at the rescue was not sure wether she was just born like it or when giving birth her mum panicked and ate them off. Any suggestions? Thanks:(|)

Oh and forgot to say, she has some of the insides of the ear but not the flap so not sure wether she can hear or not. Oh and also will I have to clean them often so she doesnt get things stuck in the bit of ear she does have?/

I'd say a trip to your vet will give you some good advice, and maybe some form of ear drops to help them stay healthy (:

Yes it happens when the mum over-cleans them at birth, it's not common but it does happen occasionally

Well, I don't know any other pigs with no ears, but one of my pigs has three ears!

Thanks for all your replies.
A guinea pig with 3 ears is really something special! Is it in the middle or is one ear a double one?

I've had a few that had no ears from birth (not sure if that was due to birth defect or over zealous mum as not here at birth).

I had group of 11 where several had frost bite damage and they lost their ear flaps because of it.

It's behind his left ear :) it's smaller than a normal ear. It's cute!

And yes, as someone mentioned before, you'll need to take extra care in warmer weather as guinea pigs lose heat via the little vessels on the flaps of their ears, so an earless piggy could overheat.

Thanks everyone! I just wanted to check that she wasn't the only guinea pig without ears because then I'd be panicking!inbreeding
