Hey guys my Guinea pig milo who is 4 1/2 has recently been experiencing runny nose and slightly crusty eyes. We took him to the vet and he said it was allergies and prescribed him 0.2ml baytril twice a day for seven days we have done that but he does not seemed to have improved his bedding is fleece the ikea bath mats with pond Liner underneath. Can you give me some advice as to what to do next. I am also contacting my vet as well

Hi!

Has your vet checked whether there is something stuck in the nostrils?

Are you using any air fresheners, scented candles, perfumed skin products etc. in your piggy room?

Can you also please specify whether they eye crusts are translucent white (dried watery tear fluid), milky (dried eye cleaning fluid) or yellowish/greenish thick crusts (well developed upper respiratory tract infection/URI). This will give us a better idea as to the nature of the
discharge. Bacterial respiratory illnesses in guinea pigs do not present with exactly the same symptoms as a human viral cold or flu but your vet won't have considered an allergy if bronchia and the lower airways were not absolutely free.

Please also be aware that any antibiotic is totally useless if you are dealing with a sensitivity or allergy to something; the same as an antibiotic cannot cure hayfever.
