Does anyone have any suggestions to get a guinea pig out from a hole in the wall?

We tried luring him out with food. he eats it until he gets close to the outside, then he runs away.

We bought a Havahart trap and put food in it, but he seems scared of it, he won't come out of the hole to get into the trap. and its too big to put in the hole

We JUST bought him and 10 min later he got into the hole as we were trying to set up the cage we had just bought, he has been in the hole 3 days now. we cant get him out. we dont know what to do. He squeaks cause hes hungry and we have been putting food in the hole cause we dont want him to starve... should we stop that and just leave the cage? I fear he will not go in even if starving...

any help would be appreciated, this is our first pet and we have no idea what to do.

thanks,

jen

Where is the hole? As a last resort can't you knock into it and get him out that way if there is enough room. If you cannot get him out I would call the RSPCA for help.

So the hole is underneath the dishwasher, on the side in the wall... sometimes he comes out so we can see him underneath the dishwasher, but never outside. we tried to grab him when he was close at the beginning, and we scared him half to death. we didnt hear or see him again for 48 hours.

we have already done all we can to get into the hole. its not possible

i dont know what those initials stand for, but i will look it up and try to call them. thanks.

How deep is the hole? Could you slide your hand in behind his bum and push him out?

Just make sure he is getting food and water that is the main thing until you get him out...

Good luck I'm sure he'll come out soon

Are you in the UK? They RSPCA will help, they have done with me when I've had injured birds in the garden and wild cats as well!

Let us know how you get on!

Louise

No, actually.

I am in the USA. is there a similar place i could call there? I will try to look it up...

Ah right try these http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer If they can't help they probably know someone who can. As a last resort the fire brigade could be called. This was in the paper today in the UK, a cat was stuck between two walls in a tiny space and the fire brigade helped get him out!

When the girls escaped they were under the garden shed, they were gone for nearly a week,we could see them now and again, hubby put their long chube over the hole with a little food about 1/4 way in,once one of them went in the 2 of us picked up the chube and put her straight in the cage,we did the same with the older girl and she followed suit,Good luck I know how worrying it is

ok, thanks, i will look into this.

I just called my local animal control office and they told me to stop feeding it in the hole or else it will never come out. She said put the Havahart cage directly outside the hole with food in it. She said when he gets hungry enough he will come out to get the food rather than starve.

Does that sound ok?

Hi Jen,

That does sound ok, you can only give it a try!

Good luck!

I bet your devastated! :(

Tell us when he is back safe in his cage!

At night time when the house is quite they come out! So try sitting outside the hole and he will surley come out. He is just scared! All I can say is when he comes out put something over the hole THEN get him. You dont want to go through all the hole buisness again!

Before i rehomed Boris he lived with the nieghbour over the road.He went under the decking and was there for a few days, they could'nt get him out.So i got my girlies (his sisters) made a small run with c&c in figure '8' one part open near the decking,it only took 5minutes for him to come out.He couldn't get to the girls but it got him out.I rehomed him a few months later.(I got him neutered too) Big happy family now. O0 O0 Good luck O0 O0

3 days? Wow. I think the only thing to do is put food and leave, she wont starve herself unless she's stuck somehow. My Koko once got stuck inside a hole in a pile of wood, (don't worry, she wasn't squashed), and I went hysterical! I was crying and calling her name until I heard some wheeks from the woodpile. I started grabbing wood from the pile and the whole pile was destroyed before I saw her, calmly eating some silverbeet like nothing had happened. :)

Thank you everyone!

Oreo is safe in her cage.

Just so you guys know, in case you have a similar problem, it finally came out of the hole when i put a box on its side outside of the hole, so it wasn't exposed to the open. Maybe because i just got her, she was afraid of the open air, she liked being enclosed which explains why she stayed in the hole.

We put the Havahart trap with the food in it inside the box , and this time she ventured out once we left her alone for a couple hours.

We came home and she was in the box (not the trap, mind you) and we flipped the box up so that she was in the box. then we transferred her to her cage for the first time.

She is skiddish, i hope she begins to trust us now that we will be taking care of her.

thanks again guys!

Oreo thanks u too!
