Guinea-piggies-94

:-\I am kinda confused about weather my rabbit and guinea pig should be in the same hutch as they might fight. My guinea pig would lose as he is much smaller. Please help
me if you know what to do. I love them both so much :smitten:

Hi love. I don't think it is a good idea at all to keep them together. They probably wouldn't fight but an accidental or intentional kick from the rabbit's back legs would be enough to break the guinea pis little bones. They don't speak the same language so they aren't ideal sompanions. Can you get another cage and then get another pig and bunny?
I kept a rabbit and guinea together when I was about 10 because I din't know any better. Thinking back now, and having seen piggies with other piggies, they weren't very happy.
Good luck.x

Guinea pigs and rabbits should'nt be together as the guinea pig could get hurt bad by the rabbit in a few different ways.

Thank you for the advice O0

:) They may live in the same hutch and get on fine and no one could be hurt. For many years I kept my bunnys with my male guineas. BUT I would never do it now.

1. The RSPCA do not recommend it, they recommend pigs should have company of their own kind. 'Companionship - to be with other guinea pigs. The widespread practice of keeping guinea pigs and rabbits together is not recommended.' taken from the RSPCA website. You are legally obliged under the Animal Welfare Act too,: 'for any need to be housed with or apart from, other animals'.
2. The nutritional needs of both species are different, guineas need greens at least twice daily for Vit C intake. Buns need more Vit D therefore the Vit D in their dry mix is higher. Dry mix is not always a good idea when it comes to feeding Buns they can overweight leading to other problems, guineas are fine on pellets.
3. Buns can harbour a germ that has no effect on them but is fatal for piggies.
4. It goes without saying that guinea is always at risk from those powerful back legs however many hidey holes there are, if he's in the way when Bunny Binkies the Hidey hole isn't any use :)
5. Guineas are a different species and are happier with their own kind. I have had a lot of guineas into rescue that are living with Buns and split after the initial night together and find them a friend. Finding a friend doesn't happen overnight always but when they are settled with their new friend they have always been sooo much happier :)

Just in case you're in any doubt LOL!

I will seperate them soon when the new fencing comes for the run x from hannah and patch x

In my case, the rabbit (yes a big Dutch male) got hurt when I tried to put him together with one of my Cuy bears hihi

I have a mini lop bunny and a baby piggy and they live together and get on well. the piggy even calls for the bunny when she is not around. However i do have a really massive massive hutch and ajoining run... seriously, its bigger then my bathroom, lol so, they have more then enough room. i would never put them together if they were in a small hutch! however mine on on well. so i think that it is possible and a nice idea if there is the right environment for them!
