It is generally enough if you weigh your piggies weekly and give them little once-over yourself at the same time. See a vet if a guinea pig loses 50g/2 oz or more in a short time or very gradually or if you notice any changes or lumps in the body. Weight loss is often the first indicator that something is not quite right. If you are worried about a guinea pig or are dealing with an ill piggy, you may want to weigh daily, preferably at the same time in the feeding cycle for a comparable weight, as a full/empty tummy and bladder can make a difference of 30g/1 oz.
It would be good if you had them vet checked if you have new guinea pigs that have not come from a place where they have undergone a mandatory quarantine and health check, like one of our recommended rescues. We offer a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar (as well as a good standard rescue locator) for our UK members.
