My dad recently built an outdoor run for my guinea pigs out my back garden. We thought it was perfectly safe but today my dog got into it. I heard sqeeling , I went outside and my dog had one of my guinea pigs in her mouth. There was fur everywhere but I didn't see any serious injuries. I took them upstairs bathed them, brushed them and made sure they were ok. I went to pets at home as I found a small cut on one of my guinea pigs and he gave me an anti-septic to put on it. He said that's all they give them in the vets so I have put them on it. I also had some pain killers left over from last time I went to the vets and it wasn't out of date , so I have given that to me. There not eating much and they are now hiding in their cage and not eating much and drinking very little. I am going to keep an eye on them as I don't want to take them to the vets quite yet as in know that all they will give them is painkillers. I just wondered if anone had any advice on what to do next to make them feel more safe? should I get some vitamins maybe to build them up? any advice/tips would be great! thanks :)

They also both have a few bald patches has anyone got any advice on how I grow these out?

I'm afraid I agree - shock is a nasty thing and although they may have no major external injuries, they could have internal injuries. If they were mine, I'd get them to a vet pronto, if only for peace of mind that I did everything I could.

@Taylor i agree that they need to see a vet. I would have personally taken them straight away as they can have internal injuries from the dog bite.

:agr: They definitely need to be seen by a vet.

So sorry that this has happened , especially as you had taken steps to prevent it.

Internal injuries dont become apparant until its too late- please take them to the vet as an emergency asap.

good luck at the vets & i'm glad they are going to the vets ASAP they need to be checked out, shock & internal injuries are possible & can cause irepairable damage.
keep them quiet & stress free for a few days to let them get over the shock of it all.

let us know how they get on. the hair on them shouldn't take too long to grow back :)

xx
