I’m getting a cat after Christmas. Do I have to make the Guinea pig cage like Fort Knox or will they be fine with each other. Hubby is trying to enclose it at the moment, the language is quite blue. Lol

I have piggies and cats. My cats have grown up around the piggies (we had the cats from kittens and they have always been taught that the piggies are off limits). But even so, I never leave the cats alone with the pigs when they’re out of the cage as you never know. If you have a topless cage, you’ll need to make a secure lid for it

My old cat never bothered with the pigs but the four cats I have now are always trying to get into their room. I do allow them in but only when I’m in there too, and they mainly just sit and watch them. When they were kittens they tried to get in the cage too, but I removed them straight away. They have never attacked the pigs but I just wouldn’t give them the opportunity!

I’d go for Fort Knox!

I have 3 cats. I have defences to stop the cats getting in the cage. Although before the defences my cats have a couple of times early on got in the cage. However my cats have always been indoor cats and so all they did was sleep in the pigs beds 🙄😂

But cats can’t be trusted as it’s in their nature so always best to be safe.

I think I would allow them in the room if someones in there. Teach them what the word no means.
my kitten would be an indoor cat, one of my dogs was poisoned last month. He was a fantastic dog. so someone threw something in the garden. We have our suspicions but no proof.
did you get your cats from a rescue centre, or somewhere else?

Aw that’s awful, I’m so sorry about your dog 😞

We got Harrison from a work colleague of my husbands who new someone who was going to chuck him out on to the streets and Austin and Morris although not brothers came together from cats protection

I would go for maximum security and take no risks at all.
Our rabbit was out in his run one day and a cat came into the garden and batted at him (playfully) with her paw. She was a young cat and I think this fuzzy lump just seemed interesting.
I saw this whole thing happen and was about to open the window and shout because our rabbit is blind.
She somehow got her paw through the double layer wall of the pen (extra security because of our rabbit's sight issues) and caught him with her claw.
It was a tiny prick, but he developed a nasty infection that took ages and cost a small fortune to heal.
Even a playful cat can cause a major issue and I would never take that risk with a guinea pig.

i use commercial cages, because they are more secure.the 160cm plaza has a lid,and i extended it to 200cm x 60cm.i also love the 140cm x70cm ferplast rabbit cage.i have a cat,she is not interested in the guinea pigs, but like others i would not risk it.
