My dad was saying that in the winter fozzy and grover may need to come indoors.would this be right as they are living outside however it did get me thinking with all this bad weather we are having whether they are warm enough.
There are plenty of topics about this subject. Some bring them in, others make sure they are warm with covers, heat pads and extra hay. The rest of us are snobs with sheds and have our piggies living in their own palaces.
A lot of people bring their pigs indoors in the winter, in fact it is advised too. There are ways you can insulate the cage to make it warmer for them. As long as the wind and rain can't get into the hutch they should be ok. Maybe have a quick look through the member's gallery to see if there are any ideas in there http://theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=53209.
Your dad is right, and it's good to start exploring your options now.
As already mentioned, bringing them inside, an insulated heated shed, or taking other measures to keep them warm in their hutch (insulating, heating and covering) are all options.
In reality, bringing them in for "winter" is more like bringing them in from about September-October until April-May, depending on the weather that year.
Speak to whoever you need to in terms of housing them (if you live with parents etc.) and start planning now for next winter Have a look around here, and see what other people have done. A quick search for "winter" brings up a lot of things to look at! http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/search.php?searchid=2668312
Thank you everyone.I'm going to start by getting a big enogh taulpalling that goes over the cage.i do worry about them a night but i check on them straight away in the morning.
mine are kept outside most of the year round and are fine. I have a plastic sheet that covers the cage to keep out the wind and rain and they get lots of straw and hay to snuggle into. I have 4 pigs and they cuddle into each other too. I only bring them into the garage if it gets very cold/windy etc. See my thread last week called inside/outside
