Guinea pigs not eating from new hay rack

Hi so I just made a new hay rack for my guinea pigs using a c grid that turned out well. So i replaced the previous hay rack because it was so messy. But now they will only sometimes eat from the new hay rack but when i give them hay from my hand they straight away eat it. What should i do

Have you tried just giving them a pile of hay on the floor? Some pigs just don’t really like eating from hay racks and prefer to be able to sit in the hay. I know that was the case with my pigs so I just took out the hay rack and they seem to prefer sitting in the hay to eat it alot more.

Yess when I put a pile on the fleece they ate it all. But does that mean i should get rid of the hay rack orr?

If you want to reduce mess, you can purchase a litter box to contain the piles of hay.

You don’t have to use hayracks at all. I don’t. My two prefer hay just being on the floor, they play in it and eat so much more of it that way

I put in a couple of decent sizes piles and top them up three times a day
