Tilly my 1 year old female guinea pigs' lower abdominal sticks out, I've also noticed some small faeces and she also was hunching forward as if she was trying to "move her bowel" a few times but nothing came out, she then lay down, eating hay and i heard a noise as if she passed wind.. I'm thinking Tilly could be bloated or have gas.. I've been looking online and read online to give infacol? Is infacol definitely safe to give to her? if so how much? And if she weren't to actually have bloat/gas after giving it to her, would it affect her or would she be okay?

Please have her seen by a vet or out-of-hours vet (number available from your vets answering machine) as an emergency to see whether it is gas or a blockage, which need different treatment.

Make sure that you get zantac, gut stimulant and painkiller if it is bloat. Keep handfeeding little but often to keep the guts moving if she has bloat. Take her off any fresh foods until any sign of bloat as gone for at least 48 hours and then introduce them only slowly one by one. The guts will often stay very tender and iffy for some time after bloat.

Massage her regularly with an electric tooth brush, but even the car vibrations can help to shift the gas. You will need to brace for a night with not much sleep, but you are fighting for her life. Severe bloat can kill.

People on here can't help, only a trained vet can tell you 100% what is wrong :(

Tilly has been that shape for a while but i thought and still am not sure if it's just her shape.. I've only had my 3 guineas for 4 months. Tilly is eating and drinking absolutely fine, running around, wheeking, happy.. It's only today that i heard a noise and seen her hunching.. She's since moved her bowels normally. The question i was asking was if anyone knew about infacol, in as if i tried it but it then turned out to be nothing would infacol affect her in any way. I'm going to keep an eye on her, the first sign of her not eating/drinking or not being active I'll be taking her straight to the vet. Thank you for your responses though.

I would not use Infacol as it creates one large gas bubble and if the GI tract is in stasis this could lead to a larger bubble becoming trapped which could be life threatening as it could cause a gastric torsion.

Woodwards Gripe water can help break down gas bubbles but she does need to see a vet.
