hi guys,

Just wondering what every one dose with all their gunnie wast as I am getting thorough so much hay and sawdust I'm using all the space in the brown bin, has any ine friend to make gunnie pig wast compost ?

Guinea Pig waste can be composted. Have you got any compost bins?

Hi Alex I used to only keep 1/3 of my soiled hay for compost about every few weeks. The rest I threw out. We just couldn't deal with how much hay I went thru (I cleaned my girls main area out twice daily)
So yeah try doing compost and good luck!

Ours all goes on a (very large) compost heap (previously provides by the horses we used to have (RIP)).

Hmmm I don't have any compost bins .... Yet ! I spot clean mine daily and change out 2 times a week so getting though a lot of wast can any one recommend a good compost bin ? I have no clue how to compost at all ! Haha we don't have any room for a bit compost pile ! Only dogs here not horses !

I compost my guinea pig waste but I don't have a huge amount as they live on fleece, so just poops and a handful of hay goes in the bin daily. You need to layer dry waste (hay, wood shavings, paper) with wet waste (veg peelings, lawn cuttings) otherwise it will take forever to rot. I've got the black plastic bins from B & Q mainly because they are light enough for me to lift when necessary, they don't look very posh but they are hidden behind the shed. You can make your own composter with bits of wood and cover it with tarpaulin or an old bit of carpet, the main aim is to hold all the waste together and get it hot enough to rot hence it rots quicker in the summer than the winter. You can buy stuff to put in the compost to speed up the process but I don't go to that expense just put in a bit of water occasionally if it looks to dry.

We have 2 big compost bins for it but since they are all full now, we just throw it in the waste bins. Our rubbish bin is collected every fortnight so the ones that won't fit in the rubbish bin, we just bring it to the tip. We asked the council in the past for a bigger rubbish bin, but they only give that out to big families apparently. :td:
