WARNING ALITTLE HORRIBLE BELOW

A friend happened to mention to me a few weeks ago that a friend of hers who keeps guineas, told her something quite disturbing.

She said that she found one of her Guineas De-cappatated. And she wasnt sure as to whether one of the other sows had done it.

I said that they are not meat eaters, but maybe the one died in the night and they chewed?

Its got me really caurious now? I dont think her friend was lying but i justy wondered if anyone has heard of this before?!

I doubt that she was eaten but if tehy got in a fight then it could have gone this far. Once a pig gets started they just keep going xx0

I doubt it very much, most likely another animal :) I've seen a mother dispose of her young (at least she started too) but not an adult.

See the guineas live in her flat, so surely if that was the case she would have heard them? ?

Its horrid to think about that. :'(

No other animals have access to them, as she only has her Guineapigs in doors, in a huge cage (and i maen huge-it takes up most of her dinning room!)

I've read somewhere that piggies in the wild will nibble at an ill/dying piggies ears/head to encourage it to get up. Tho' i've no idea if "pet piggies" do the same :-\

when i've had guineas die the others either sat next to it or squeaked till i got their or sat looking sad at them i dunno how they do it but guineas can look sad! maybe the ohers just tried to get her up and went too far sad thou

If the piggy died naturally, it is very possible that the cagemate started nibbling at it to try and bring it round :( Ive heard of it before :)

RIP little piggy 0:)

sorry to ask... but was the head still there do you know or was it missing... :P wonder what kind of state the head was in if it was still there...

I think hamsters eat their babies if they are stressed so anything is possible. 98)

sounds so horrible... very strange :-\

Never witnessed eating but some of mine will lick the dead guinea's eyes and ears and then just leave them alone totally. I only had one pig that sat sat next to her dead friend until I moved her, the others just 'say their goodbyes' and move on- :)

I know this is totally different but with a pair/group of hamsters if one dies the other sometimes starts to eat them to get rid of the smell and also for extra food, but hamsters can eat meat whereas piggies cannot so yeah. ?

I think its true the 'source' isnt the type to lie. i asked about the head and it was still there and only attatched by the spinal cord, one of her guineas that lived there was white and she had stains on her. She said that she thought little Eve wasnt too well, and was going to take her to thge vets the next day?!

thanks for answering that... not a nice thing to ask. Did your friend ask the vet what might've caused that?

I really dont know what could've happened to that poor little guinea :(

OMG poor piggie! But seeing as piggies can't eat meat and all that, well I find it kinda hard to believe. Although who knows? sorry can't help you much, got no idea why a pig would do that. Never heard of it before. ?

She never asked the vet, too mortified. She really loves her guineas and i dont believe she would lie, theres no point as she was asking for advice?!

I find it an odd thing, i think maybe like some of you have said she had dies and they tried to wake her?!
