Hi everyone
l have a 7month old boar who has been treated for a uti with septrin and metacam. The septrin did help a little bit however my little piggy is still struggling..he cries when he goes to wee...and he lifts his belly up at same time. Its very upseting to watch....Teebo ( thats his name) is otherwise eating and drinking well sleeping normally playing with his freinds bandit and maugwai. But its just when he needs to wee thats the issue.he still has a little bit of septrin left to take...but l dont think its doing anything now. (I'm a nurse and treating people with uti's some antibitics can be resistant to certain bugs l dont know if its the same for animals) lve put cranberry juice in Teebo's drinking water but he still cries when he pee's. I dont want to take him to the vet to be proded and poked as that will stress him..l know guniea pigs dont do well with stress.
what do l do?any help will be appreciated please.

Sorry your little one is still in pain. I would contact the vets again (they can give advice over the phone if necessary). It's always recommended to finish the course. But if you have completed the prescribed course you should not administer further antibiotics before checking with the vet first. Did the vet check for stones or other problems at the time?

The vet felt his tummy and took a good look at his willy to check that it was not blocked...he is in good health otherwise.
l was thinking of trying to get another sample and seeing what it looked like.as the first one was thick and smelly very smelly wee.

Has your vet considered an xray or scan to check for stones or any inflammation in the bladder (interstitial cystitis)? Has his urine been tested to see if the infection is still there?

Sorry to hear he's unwell at such a young age. How long was the course of septrin? Sometimes it needs to be given for several weeks to have effect. But I agree if no improvement then you will need to consider X-rays and a few more investigations.

I took a sample of wee into the vet before my pig was put onto septrin.
the vet examined my piggy well by feeling his tummy and looking at his penis to check is was not blocked. The vet said it would unlikely be stones in such a young animal but would consider an xray after antibiotic course. My eldest piggy is six and l think he had a uti when he was younger but l did not do anything as he shifted it himself and has been in good health since.but since losing one piggy Gizmo who was five and a half to a stroke lm very protective of any ailment in my pigs now and dont like seeing them in pain or stressed wether its at ge vets or being unwell.

The septrin was prescribed as 0.5ml once a day until finished ...l got it on 22/12/2015
And there is just under half a bottle left so piggy has still some antibiotic left to take.
