Eriathwen
Adult Guinea Pig
I often wondered what your life was like before we met, all anyone really knew is you'd probably been alone, you were dumped at a hotel car park..skin and bone, hairless, horrible bumblefoot and severe anal impaction. You were rescued and passed to the RSPCA Walsall who brought you back to as near good health as possible before trying to find you a home.
Apparently given your issues, that was a bit of a task! I had seen you up for adoption, such a handsome chap! Unfortunately it wasn't a good time to adopt as our Shelly was so poorly and I wasn't sure what the future held for her. As fate would have it, after getting home from dropping her off at the crematorium I recieved a text from your foster carer asking if I had room for you. Of course I did! It was meant to be.
When we first met you were incredibly quiet, you lay down in my arms and went to sleep. Not helpful for filling in paperwork
so you made yourself comfy in your carrier ready for the ride home, which you made in total silence! I had been told you didn't move around much, so I figured I had a moment to find my nail clippers and some gloves to clear your impaction..to my great suprise you shot off across the floor to explore your new home!
I will never forget the complete change in demeanour when you first heard the others, the first piggies you had seen in a very long time, as far as anyone knew. Your entire body perked up and your eyes lit up!
You adored your new girlfriends, Daisy, Thistle and Ebony (and later Mabel after the loss of Daisy and Thistle) as well as your new brother Oliver who you spent a great deal of time talking to through the bars.
It turned out your issues stemmed from awfully arthritic knees which we were able to get on top of and finally provide some relief for, these last almost 2 years you were unrecognisable as the pig who fell asleep in my arms all that time ago.
You adored your metacam, running to the bars every morning and evening for it, and running off with the empty syringes and the other piggies meds
Your happy little face and cheeky eyes made everyone fall in love with you, as well as your crazy little hedgehog mohawk.
We believe you were going to be 7ish this year, having been told you were 3-5 when we got you it became clear you were on the older side of that. I had expected to only have you for a few short months given your previous horrendous mistreatment, but you were determined to make the most of your new life and stayed for almost 2 years before a suspected tumour took you..this tike yesterday you were your normal self, and now you are gone
while I am grateful that for you, it was quick, even at the vet today you were bright and alert, it has come as a total shock.
Rest well beautiful Gusgus, back with Thistle and your first love, Daisy.
