So I had my 2 piggies for the last five years a female and a maleand I’ve had my youngest piggy for two years she’s a female, and they’ve all been bonded but for the last week, my female Lulu has been mounting the younger one and the male a lot more than usual chasing them around. they’re all squeaking nobody showing teeth nobody’s rumbling but everybody’s running around squeaking so I don’t know if they’re playing or if she’s just showing them that she’s the head pig still but she’s constantly mounting them Nonstop. Wasn’t sure what I should do or if there was a problem cause she’s done this before but not so much. And she does it for long periods of time if anybody has any idea, please let me know. Thank you so much.

Any female who is showing constant signs of overly hormonal behaviour should ideally be checked by a vet for the potential presence of ovarian cysts; equally a health check wouldn’t go amiss as sometimes a change in behaviour can be due to discomfort/pain from another source such as arthritis in an elderly piggy.

Keep up with her weight checks particularly even increase then to daily if you are concerned about her

I hope she is ok

I had just left the post about my sow being extra aggressive with the other pigs in the cage. I was wondering, should I separate her from them I was gonna section off a piece of the cage for her because I have them in a huge cage. I’ll still keep them near one another. I’ll just have it sectioned off.Just don’t want any of them to be stressed out or get hurt until I get her to the vet just because it’s nonstop and I keep running in there to check on all of them because she is just chasing them And mounting them like crazy. They can’t relax for a second without her messing with them. If anybody could let me know, I’d appreciate it.

@sport_billy Could these posts be merged?

Hiya- I'm sure somebody will give you some advice soon. Unless they are actively fighting (i.e. drawing blood), I would not separate them until you get advice from the forum experts.

It’s ok - id noticed and had done it!

OK, thank you yes, no blood has been drawn no biting at all just a lot of mounting and a lot of squeaking and she is just chasing my youngest, which is a year and a half old and my older male which is the same five years as her and it’s not all the time it’s just been happening a lot. I’ve noticed in the last day and a half. She’s always been the head pig. Nobody’s ever fought her on it but she’s been chasing them all over the cage for the last day so I just wasn’t sure if I should separate her so everybody can just take a breather, but I’ll definitely wait and I am definitely making an appointment this week with their vet.

It really depends on how severe and relentless the behaviour is getting and how well the others are dealing with it.
If they are ok and it isn’t causing major problems then definitely leave them together.
The issue with separating is they may refuse to go back together again but if she gets so bad hay the bond between them becomes unstable then you may need to think again

Bonds In Trouble

OK right now it’s been about an hour and they’re all just laying down relaxing. It’s just when she starts running around after them. It’s nonstop for like a good half an hour with her trying to mount them and her just chasing them everywhere.

That doesn't sound abnormal to me, for a phase (till you get her checked at vet's) and half an hour (even if several times a day) isn't relentless. I'd leave them together, especially as you say they're relaxing together rn. Also the youngest is 1.5 years - that's not a little baby or a wobbly senior that you might have to pay special attention to and/or protect.

Hi

It sounds like a mega season and should be over by tomorrow morning.

You can find advice on how to handle a super-season in the relevant chapter of this link here:
Sow Problems 'Down Below' (Ovarian Cysts, Super-seasons, Womb Infection, Pregnancy & Mammary Tumours)

All the best. It can look rather scary if you have never witnessed it before.
