She was fine this morning, ate her breakfast. At lunchtime I put some dandelions in her bowl and looked over a few minutes later to see if she was eating them.

I was shocked to see she had blood all around her right eye. Panic stations, got her out and wiped the blood away and could see the conjunctiva in the corner of her eye was swollen and bloody.

Phoned the vets and they had a free appointment at 1.45 so took her along. Vet flushed the eye, applied dye, no ulceration or anything in the eye. We reckon a piece of hay (again!) poked the eye and punctured the membrane.

Eye drops (again!) which will hopefully do the trick.

I hope the eye drops work for her- that must've been painful and SCARY! luckily you got her an appointment very quickly so I'm sure that has helped alot.

I still panic when I see the cleaning fluid they release from their eyes let alone blood so I can totally imagine your terror. But you were a grear piggy mum and have rectified it quickly which I'm sure she appreciates.

oh bless her, what an ordeal! Hope the eye drops work quickly and she is more comfortable soon

Eye injuries are always a shock as they can deteriorate so very quickly. You have obviously caught it very early and had her seen quickly, so things are going to hopefully heal smoothly and without problems!

Well done for finding that so quickly and for getting her seen so quickly. Healing vibes to Hettie.

She had had several hay poke injuries, so fluffy everything sticks in her fur!

But, I had never seen blood before and that's what made me panic!

:vom::vom: Poor Hettie
I'm not good with eyes (and I've had several nasty hay pokes and infections over the years in my piggies) and the thought of blood, too, means you must have been very brave (but not as brave as Hettie)

Here's to a speedy recovery. And perhaps guinea pig eye protectors!

Definately eye protectors!

Now it has stopped bleeding and isn't as swollen, I'm not actually sure if it is the conjunctiva or a small lump actually outside, although very close to, the eye.

I will see how it looks tomorrow and, if concerned, will take her back to the Vet.

Looking much better this morning although I'm still not exactly sure where the injury was!

Gave her another dose of Metacam just in case it's still a bit sore. She is so funny, I put the syringe near her mouth and she just starts sucking on it, no encouragement needed! and then looking around for more!
