I am at my wits end with my 1 year old sheltie Lottie, I've had her since birth and she has been really well handled, I started trimming nails, hair and grooming her at a young age to get her used to it but ever since the beginning she has been the most uncooperative pig ever when it comes to scissors, I honestly don't know what to do with her. She gets wet on her bottom so her hair needs to be trimmed very short there, but she won't let me anywhere near her back end, she kicks, bucks, spins, squeals, you name it to try and get away from the scissors. I don't have a clue why she is behaving like this as I've done my very best to desensitise her but she just hates it. I took her to the vet as I thought maybe pain is causing this but nothing is wrong with her. I've tried so many strategies such as wrapping her in a towel and having someone else hold her but nothing works. This is breaking my heart as Lottie is one of my favourite piggies, she is the sweetest and most cuddly pig, she loves people, but the moment you try to cut her hair she acts like you're trying to kill her and it makes me feel so awful for making her go through it. She loves having her hair brushed and will let me trim her nails, but hair cutting = big nope! I would even pay for someone else to trim her at this point but I don't think Guinea Pig groomers exist! I just love Lottie so much and I really don't want to stress her out or her getting hurt. :(

I got these scissors with a built in comb. They are called "scaredy cut" they're designed for dogs that don't like the clippers at a groomers. Or you could try her with a set of clipoers instead of scissors?

I was honestly considering just shaving her lol, especially with summer coming! I can pick up a pair of battery operated small dog face trimmers for about £15 which I think would be a good size for a guinea pig but I wasn't sure if clippers were effective for this kind of thing, it's around her bottom and between her back legs that need trimming as short as possible so perhaps clippers would be better in her case, I believe they are fast at removing lots of hair and don't pull?

I haven't tried them. But people use them on dogs so they mustn't pull. If they work I might get them for peanuts bum and tummy as he karate kicks me. Lol

I'd love to hear reviews from people that have used clippers and if they were effective etc, if so I will definitely buy some as it'd be so much easier for me and Lottie. She makes me feel like such a bad owner for trying to help her and keep her comfortable lol!

I clip my long haired piggy! I started with mini battery powered clippers but they're not really powerful enough. I now use small rechargeable wahl clippers designed for humans! I don't run the clippers along the piggy as such but get the hair between two fingers (like I was going to cut it with scissors) and then run the clippers along the length of my finger, trimming the hair as I go. Or I push the clippers down onto my finger to cut through the hair. Fortunately, Tommi is a really easy pig to clip and sits very still so I'm lucky.

Last year I bought some pet clippers for Betsy who is my Sheltie. She didn't like them very much at first but after the second or third trim she was used to them. I had to keep repostioning her and then I had to ask my son to help me. During the winter I kept her rear end neat with scissors but she didn't like this very much. I am going to try her again with the clippers soon. I have heard that I might be able to distract her with a treat while the clipping is going on. Her favourites are carrot, cucumber and pepper and, of course, hay so I may try those. Good l8ck

Cali acts that way with nail trimming! Maybe cover her head with a towel or piece of fleece, leaving her nose exposed to breathe. Have someone else hold her gently but firmly and then trim the fur. Maybe leave her mouth exposed as well and have a big pile of veggies in front of her so she's distracted and occupied with them. Eventually she won't even notice what you are doing!

I have Just4Pets Pro Style Pet Clippers. I think I got them from Amazon ..... or it might have been ebay it was one or the other anyway!

Thanks! About 2 seconds after asking that my friend pointed out that Lidl had something that might be a possibility. So just off to post about that should it help anyone else :)
