I've had my guinea pig for a few weeks now. Ive seen her lose hair but a small amount so she was probably shedding. Just a couple of days ago I was holding her and I noticed that a lot of hair was on my shirt once I put her back in her cage. A lot more than usual... I give her veggies everyday so it can't be because vitamin deficiency. Whats wrong with my guinea pig? :'(

is the hair loss patchy? (as in are some areas of her furr thicker than others, with almost bald patches?)

If its patchy, it could be fungal, or mites/lice, both of these need basic vet treatment so please take her to the vet.

If its not, i wouldnt worry, I'm always getting piggy hair all over my clothes/room and theres definatly nothing wrong with my boys.

I've had little Chip for about 5 weeks now but when I brought him home, he started losing his hair (and he had lots). I treated him for mites, but the hair still kept falling out. He has none of his original coat apart from around his face, but the new coat is growing lovely and lush. He is eating like a horse and is a happy pig, but very nervous and I did wonder whether the hair loss was a nervous reaction to being re homed and from living outside to living inside? I will never know.....

I wouldn't define it as patchy but the hair loss is definitely more than what is was when I first got her which was about 7 weeks ago. Hope there isn't anything wrong with her :(

I'm sorry I cant be more help, I hope you find the cause soon. :(

If the hair loss isn't patchy and the skin underneath is healthy I dare say your piggy is just shedding it's coat, as many animals do round this time of year. Enviromental changes, such as moving from outdoors to indoors, or heating on more often can cause animals to cast their coat too.

Just keep an eye on the skin and if any bald-ish patches appear.

Harold is constantly shedding his hairs all over me, try not to worry if it all looks fine its probably just a regular moult.

Thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it. Its just that there is so much hair on my hand and shirt after handling her :|
