Hi,

My piggie Lola's hair seems to be pulling out really easily. I only noticed this today as I got her out for a hug and was covered in her hair which isn't normal! She is fine in herself and I am planning on giving her a bath tomorrow to see how much hair comes out then. I'm just not sure if it could be a fungal infection or mites.
Thanks in advance :)

Have you had a look at her skin? Does it look red/scabby?

My Beans is prone to shedding quite a lot every now and then, especially now it's summer

Her skin looks fine and it just seems to be pulling out more on the top of her body, especially down her back where it's longer. It could just be related to the weather but I just wanted to double check!

This is where Beans sheds from the most, sometimes it's just a few hairs, but other times I'm completely covered in her hair just from petting her

Keep an eye on it that she's not itching/scratching/biting at this area, which could indicate mites/lice

My pigs shed more than my long hair cat and when they are nervous or stressed they shed more. Vet trips are very hairy:doh:

Maybe that's what it is then, thank you! She doesn't seem to be itching or anything so I'll give her a bath tomorrow to get rid of the excess hair! And as for me, I'll keep the lint roller handy to get the hair off my clothes!:D

She did go to the vets a couple of weeks ago and you could've made a whole piggie from the hair left on the table! She finds vet trips stressful as she's a Mummy's girl and kept trying to run to me!:))

Are you seeing any bald skin or hair coming out in patches? Guinea pigs do go through a shed in the spring... I get tons of hair out of my pigs at that time. Not sure how they know when it's spring as they live inside, but somehow they know! Sundae in particular sheds like crazy!
