just picked up this (not so) little fella from an openair market...i wouldnt normally buy from them but i just fell in love with this guy and had to bring him home! no idea on the breed but his hair is very thick and wavy....and he has some terrible matting underneath.
will it be too stressful to try and brush...or should i just give him a good wash and cut first, then brush whats left? he is just a big ball of hair...(!)

Looks like a Texel. My Guy is a texel but hes been clipped. I'm not an expert on hair thats what i keep him short at the back x

Oh WOW! What a pig! Definitely a good trim to get all the mats out and a good tidy up - then a bath. The mats could be hiding all sorts of skin problems so you need to be able to get to the skin, so they need to come off - Brushing mats out is almost impossible with a coat like that and hurts them too much. He's has enough stress already.

Have you seen Milo - the popcorning mop? Could be his twin! I'll see if I can find you the link.

Oh my, he is a gorgeous boy x) and looks like a 'Mop' I would cut the mats out and then give him a good bath as like has already been mentioned, you don't know what to expect underneath. I would then follow this with a nice warm bath, towel dry and gentle brush :) xx

Yep, like the other people said, it'd be best to cut out the matts, then brush him and wash him. :)

He's gorgeous! :))

Awww.... Was just gonna say he looks like joannes milo! They could definitely be twins :)
i would chop first then wash. Will be much easier and less painful to brush. X

I say give him a haircut, and bath, and definately keep him short round the back end.

My Pingu (peruvian female) is kept short cos i like to see whats going on, and no matts so shes loads more comfortable.

Wow he is gorgeous, sounds as if he is in for a haircut and a bath then :))
He looks like his name should be Dougal, he only needs a lady friend called Florence then.:))

Hes gorgoeusx) I agree with everyone else as regards cut, bath, brush:)

Congrats he's a stunner x)
I find that when i wash it's easier to cut out the knots/matts then. You do need help tho unless he's happy to sit there whilst he gets his haircut.
awwwwww Dougal Mop that's cute x)
I'm sure he's going to love his caring forever home :)
