Hi all

I've just found out that I'm pregnant, and I was wondering what advice people have about caring for pigs over the next nine months? I know there's a theoretical risk of contracting "lymphocytic choriomeningitis" (LCMV) from pet rodents, but I don't think there have actually been any cases of it in the UK. So far the most sensible advice I've seen on the net is to get someone else to clean the pigs' cage (I like that bit), keep them away from my face and to wash my hands thoroughly after handling them. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks

Congratulations! ^)

My niece gave birth last night so I'm a great Aunty for the second time! :)

I would think being sensible and careful with hygiene who be adequate.

Wearing gloves to clean out cages hutches, washing hands throughly after wards with antibacterial wash. Cleaning regulary which I'm sure you do anyway, so they don't get too dirty.

I have always had various animals and have 5 children had no problems :)

Congratulations :)

I am 21 weeks pregnant and still cleaning my piggies out and doing everything as normal with them. I must admit I still let them cuddle me near my face. I also have a dog who I am more worried about catching anything from.

I think it is mainly cat poo you need to stay away from.
