hi I have a 3 year old boar Joey, tonight I have noticed a hard lump at the top of his front leg. You can move it about although he nibbles my hand if I touch the base of it. He also has a smaller one on the other front leg, is this normal in piggies?

I'm sorry you lost your piggie.:agr: with the other posters,it is best to get this checked.vet fees seem to increase rapidly with the progress of technology in medicine.ive even decided to insure my young guinea pigs to help with vet fees .

No, it is not normal and it will have to bee seen by a vet. Keep an eye on the lumps; if the get bigger very quickly, you need to see an out-of-hours vet, otherwise it can wait until regular opening hours after the Christmas break.

Progress? I find the vets seem to know nothing much about Guineas, they fumble about giving meds and procedures until they find the problem! 7 years training and they seem clueless, I’ve just lost a pig to kidney failure and if I come across my other pig with the same symptoms I’d straight away think oh is it that but the vets seem like they have no clue

Yes my piggie was priceless but that does not mean I’m happy for vets to fumble through every meds or procedures until they find the actual reason why they’re are unwell

Have you tried our vet locator on the top toolbar, it tends to include the vets that forum users recommend. Not all are specialists but they have all been seen to be more knowledgeable than general vets. My regular vets have a vested interest in small animals so tend to be good and more aware of when to refer on to a more specialist vet. You aren't too far from one of the top vets for piggies in the country with Simon maddock and his wife Kim at the cat and rabbit clinic in Northampton. I've actually driven the 40-60 mins from Leicester before to see him with some complex piggies. His prices are reasonable but very knowledgeable and that is clear from their first inspection of the piggies
