My OH's brother in law has 3 GP's and just told me he wants to get some harnesses so he can take them out for a walk.

What do you think about this? I have mixed emotions but my first reaction was OH MY GOD!

He shouldn't Harnasses are dangerous and can break the back of a guinea pig.

First harness's are a big no no for piggies, but second by "take out" do I presume outside for a proper walk like a dog? The pigs would be scared to death and what if they met a cat or dog on the walk. Definatly not a good idea

if they can do such harm to guineas then why are pet shops allowed to sell them ?/

I often wonder the same thing, as they really are so dangerous, they can do some permanant damage.

But, then again, there aren't the same laws protecting small animals like guinea pigs, as there are protecting animals like cats and dogs.
Which I suppose is why hardly any (if any at all) pet shops sell cats and dogs nowadays, but many are still selling small animals, and keeping them in sub-standard conditions.

Pet shops sell a lot of things that they shouldn't.
Pigs don't need to be taken for walks. Better to spend the money on a nice run for the garden and let them enjoy the fresh air that way.

i dont like them i think it is wrong leads (harnesses) are meant for dogs and thats it really.
You can't really do anything just try to pursuade people that want one that they are no good and are bad.

Yep they sell them because people buy them and they can make profit from them. One slip is all it takes to cause damage.

I only just discovered in the last few days that apparently there are still many pet shops selling kittens - I personally have never came across any but on a cat forum the amount of comments that have been made proves that it is ongoing at quite a large number of pet shops.

I didn't know pet shops were allowed to sell kittens! do some still sell puppies? or is that illegal?

Agree with everyone else, never use a harness

I spoke to him about it and warned him about the dangers.

He was horrified and vowed never to use them! :)
