In the pet shop they sell harnesses and leads designed for guinea pigs. My 4 year old wanted to get one today, but I'm not sure they are a good idea. I think the piggies would probably hate them, and certainly wouldn't consent to being 'walked' by an over-eager pre-schooler ::)

Has anyone else got one? Do piggies like them?

No they shouldn't be used, they're dangerous. If they are tight enough so that they can't escape then they are too tight and are hurting the piggy. Also if the piggy gets scared they will run into a dark area, trying to pull you along..this can hurt them badly :( Also, the piggies don't like them. It's much easier just to give them a run or let them run around the room and much safer too.

I agree with Jane, petshops only sell them to make a profit. Guinea pigs should not be put on leads, one slip would result in injury or even death! Really annoys me when I see them and I end up shouting about them really loudly if the shops, even if I am on my own! 98)

Thanks, that's what I thought. Wasn't sure if they were dangerous, but I knew the boys wouldn't enjoy it at all.

Aye there not the best thing in the world. If you fasten them to tight the Gpig could come uncomfy.

I wouldnt bother... :)

There are many of these guinea pig harnesses and leashes on the market. Unfortunately they are just as dangerous as exercise balls. Even a slight tug on the harness could cause pig's ribs to fracture. If a pig gets spooked, your guinea may sustain horrific injuries such as fractured ribs and even spine - both of which are very painful and difficult to treat.
Piggies are not like dogs, who need walking under control (on a leash) every day. Cavies need time to run free in their own space, at their own rate, and do not like being restricted in such a way. >:(
