Hi everyone i am a foster-er for the rspca, i have taken three females in today i took them to the vets for a health check which they passed with flying colours but the vet said she could feel something in the tummy she said they may be pregnant but the lady who brought them in said they had had no contact with males, she seems genuine i was wondering if anyone else had had this happen and what was the reason for it? Emma x

I would never take anyones word for it that the sows have not been near boars, sometimes people genuinely don't know whether they have or not and other times they don't want to admit it as you might not take the guinea pigs in. People often appear genuine but I always "proceed with caution" at all times.

In my rescue I just hang onto the females until I'm sure, regardless of what I've been told. It's not good to adopt out a possibly pregnant female.

I had two "males" handed in once ................... one was pregnant ! The lady didn't even realise she had one of each!

Yes, you meet all sorts in rescue. Good luck with your little ladies.

I agree with summerleaze, the woman may genuinely not have know she had boars and they may have been near the females, but good luck with your piggies O0

I have never had anything happen like this though so can't help or anything other than that.

When I bought Kali and Xenia they were both very young. Kali was already pregnant but I didn't know when I bought her. Little Phoebe was born at home and I was so proud :smitten:

When Treacle came to me she was very tiny and I hoped that the boar they all had been in with had not got her. After a few weeks I could feel a lump like you discribe she was pregnant :'( and only a babe herself. So this little piggie you have must not be rehomed untill she had her pups. Gestation is between 62 and 72 days depending on the size of the litter.

I foster for Honeybunnys rehoming. 2 female piggies handed in a short time ago and Jill (Honeybunny) was assured that they had not been near a boar. Funny that, as they have just produced eight babies between them!
