HELP
I have just been up to check on the GP and i have found Mommy pig has a small piece of hay in her eye i have managed to get the hay out of her eye and i have bathed it with cotton wool and a warm water but i have noticed the eye is cloudy and bloodshot i have put her back in with the others but just wondered what else i can do for her will she need to go to the vets or will it settle down by its self
Thanks for any advice

LOL, the subject says 'hat in eye!' :))

Hay pokes are quite common... the cloudiness in the eye is what happens afterwards and it might heal by itself. If you went to the vet they would probably give you some gel to put in it.

If you've removed the hay, you could bathe it gently in boiled (and cooled down) water or optrex if you have some.

Hope the piggy is soon on the mend - if you're worried then best go to the vet just to be sure

Sterile Saline Solution, as used on contact lenses, is ideal for flushing out debris from eyes.

Optrex Infected Eyes (active ingredient chloramphenicol) is ideal for most situations of injured and healing eyes where there has been a mild puncture. You can buy this from the chemist - just don't mention it is for animals! It is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye in humans; most people say their friend/child has conjunctivitis.
Apply 2-3 times a day until the eye is clear and healthy. Chloramphenicol is usually what the vet would give, but if you aren't sure of how the eye looks or of treating yourself, please do check with a vet.

Ive just had the same problem with my pig, ive been putting optrex for infected eyes 3 times aday for the last two days and his eye has really improved. Hope his eyes feels better soon

Mind i had to make a right little fib up to get it as you can only get it over the counter :x
