Hello everyone i recently this summer got a flea problem. Very long story on how it happened but now we got our dog treated. She is on nexguard and we have not found any being able to live on her but she does itch from time to time because of them biting her. My cats are the only ones that have them now and I am working on getting rid of the fleas on them. I also do have very good control over the fleas as well takes me about 2 hours when I flea comb my cats. When I do I only find at the most 25 on all 4 cats the the main issue is the fleas living in our concrete floor in the basement. We are going to spray and bug bomb our basement this coming weekend to. But I am worried because last night my fiance forget he opened the door to the cats room and they got into my pigs cage. I thought I saw a flea on her last night but I was not 1000% sure. I checked this morning and I did not see anything. I changed her fleece bedding out for new and I took out her fleece bed to be washed and dried. I usually give her a bath with some dawn dish soap ( very tiny amount ) and I blow dry her afterwards with a small tooth pick comb. Last night I did not have time for this as it was very late and I still had college homework to finish. If there was a flea on her and only one will that one be able to start a flea colony? If so what types of medication will I need to use for her? I will also be contacting an exotic vet in my area before using any sorts of medication since she is going on 6 years old and I do believe she has a heart condition since she is breathing heavily. She did have UTI but we got it all cleared up but she still breaths very heavily. Since she is so old I do not want to but her on any sorts of medication. We make sure we do not over excite her and we try to make sure she is as calm as possible. She is living a very happy life being spoiled and she does have a room mate but it is a he and they only hang out when she is in her cage with the top on and he is on the floor.

All skin parasites are species specific, so cat fleas can be a momentary nuisance, but they go very hungry on guinea pigs and will desert them very quickly!

Please be careful to use a product that is safe to use around small animals when disinfecting your flat.

Do not worry I will be very careful. I will have my mom hold on to my pigs the whole day while we redo the bedroom and the basement. We do have a very safe spray that gets rid of fleas and does not harm cats and dogs. But i do not trust it with my guinea pigs so they will be chilling with my parents a few blocks away from me.

Some sprays that are safe for cats and dogs can be lethal for guinea pigs, so it is good if you got them out of the way until you have had time to air the flat thoroughly after the disinfection.

All the best!

I know we already did this once when it was very bad we bug bombed the hole house. Now we are only have issues in certain areas the pigs room would have been fine. But my cats have broken into their room and the room they are in the vent in their room did not give off much heat. They are fine we but blankets around their cage and gave them small piggy blankets. I do believe that helped a lot with killing off the fleas in that room since they can not survive in cold weather. But with it starting to get warm out even if it is for a little while since it is still winter I want to get that room again just to be sure.

We got rid of fleas recently by hoovering everyday. We couldn't use a flea spray as our piggies live in our lounge and we couldn't move them anywhere else. Our cat stopped scratching after about a week of hoovering each day.
