Hay Advice!

Just bought some meadow hay from asda as I've done so before and seems good quality, much like the one I buy from my local pet store too, it's by the brand my little friends and I was wondering if it is okay to use even though the date says DOM 19 MARCH 2014? Probably thinking "No of course not! FOOL!" Should have checked it before I bought it I know D: If not they will have to wait until tomorrow when I can get some from my normal store, they've had veg and got their normal food. Ahh so annoying! Anyways yeah let me know if it would cause any harm to them

I have never seen a date on hay before! If you bought it after march you are entitled to a refund.

It means date of manufacturing! It is fine to use. I just looked it up.

Ahhh thanks very much! They can have some hay now haha and I did think it was weird, I only ever take notice of dates on their nuggets and dandelion stuff so that's good to know now! xD

If it is stored in damp and moist conditions then it can get mouldy

I have never had hay long enough for it to go bad since the boys eat so much of it!

Yes, it's better not to buy in large quantity, I have seen 50lbs of hay sold on the net, but I'm thinking it shouldn't be used for more than a month. Getting a big bale for the piggy is nice, though!
